VO2 Max Testing

Are you looking for that extra edge in your training?

Would you like to know more about the physiological state of your body?

Tri Specify’s specific bicycle testing will help you to monitor your training with more accuracy than you have ever done before. We will give you the information to help you train more efficiently so that you can maximize your training time on the bike.

Using state of the art Cardio Pulmonary Exercise testing equipment you can test your body to its limits and at the same time get detailed feedback on how your body performs under stress. Our state of the art equipment will test your body composition to provide you with detailed information on your optimal Heart Rate training zones, your Maximal aerobic Capacity (VO2 Max), Anaerobic Threshold and Peak Power Output, Along with this, we will compile a comprehensive analysis of your metabolic responses and lactate production during cycling.

Along with the physiological responses, the Veletron Load Ergometer records watts, cadence, Heart Rate, speed, distance & time with both average and peak values, further enhancing your knowledge of what best works for you when you’re cycling both under stress and during recovery. The effect of crank length on your cycling performance can also be monitored, and by adjusting the crank length while you test, we can find the optimum crank length for you with respect to cadence efficiency and power output. We use science to find you that extra edge.

This type of testing is a great tool in being able to monitor your training and improvement as it provides you with several more variables on which you can monitor your development. After undertaking an initial test, you then provide yourself with a set of values from which you can base ongoing gains in performance. From here, another test 6, 8 or 12 weeks later allows you to analyse your improvement in terms of your VO2 max, power output or lactate production. Measuring change through your Maximal Aerobic Capacity is an excellent way to evaluate your level of fitness as it gives you a definitive value which is directly comparable to your previous result.

What is Vo2 max Testing?

Your Vo2 max is an indicator of your aerobic potential and an opportunity to see where you fall in the fitness spectrum. This test measures oxygen uptake by monitoring oxygen and carbon dioxide in expired air as you reach your maximum exercise workload. We recommend having your lactate threshold and VO2max tested at the same time, because together the results from both tests provide an even more detailed picture of your current fitness. From a training standpoint, we aim to increase the amount of power you can produce at VO2max, and how long you can sustain that workload.

What is lactate threshold testing?

Lactate threshold is one of the most important physiological markers for training and success in endurance sports. By measuring the lactate levels in blood samples taken during a ramping cycling test performed on Velotron load bike we can determine your maximum sustainable performance capacity. The data collected during the test (lactate, heart rate, and power) will be used to establish your lactate threshold, as well as specific heart rate and power training intensities to help you improve your sport-specific performance.

After your initial test, this performance information can be used to tailor a program for you, based on the results you achieved, making for an extremely specific and efficient training program to maximize your available training time.
